21 days to explore the historic Hochiminh trail, starting form Hanoi then riding to Hue, Danang, Hoian, Kontum, Dalat, Saigon. We will then discover the Mekong delta River by Lecochinchine boat in 2 days, passing overnight on boat: Free foot massage, sight seeing…
Round: Hanoi - Halong Bay - Hochiminh trail - Hue - Highland - Saigon - Mekong cruise
Day 01: Arrival in Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi, transfer to hotel located in the heart of Hanoi (just near the Notre – Dame) then free to visit the city as your desires. In the late after-noon, check and try the motorbike with our guide. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Hanoi – Halong by car (B/L/D)
Overnight on boat in the Halong Bay.
Day 03: Halong – Hanoi by car (B/L)
Overnight at hotel.
Day 04: Hanoi - Mai Chau. (L,D): ~ 150 km
First day of the motorbiking trip.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before reaching at high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.
Day 05: Mai Chau – Lam Kinh National vestige - Tan ky. (B,L,D): ~ 240 km
We ride out of Maichau, following the road N15 and Ma River. The landscape is wonderful with rice fields and bamboo forests… We stop at Lam Kinh national vestige in Thanh Hoa province, this monument is unique in the citadel architecture in Vietnam based on the big stones. After lunch, we continue to Tan Ky, a district of Nghe An province where we pass overnight.
Day 06: Tan Ky – President Hochiminh village – Huong Khe. (B,L,D): ~ 170 km
Turn left and ride down in the direction to Nam Dan where we visit the homeland of President Hochiminh in Sen village. You discover more about the simple life of Uncle Ho by visiting his house and meeting the local people. We take the ferry to across the Lam River then heading south to Huong Khe. O/n in Huong Khe.
Day 07: Huong Khe - Phong Nha cave . (B,L,D): ~ 130 km
Always on the Hochiminh road, we arrive and stop to visit Dong Loc intersection, during the anti-US war, this site was the main junction of the supply lines from the North to Ho Chi Minh Trail. We visit some historical vestiges here then ride down to Phong Nha cave, world heritage site – the most beautiful in the center of Vietnam.
Day 08: Phong Nha - Khe Sanh. (B,L,D): ~ 240 km
After visiting Phong Nha caves by boat ( ~ 2 hours) we keep riding along the Laotian border on the western lines of the trail to visit Khe Sanh, the strategic American army location during the Vietnamese war. O/n in Khe Sanh.
Day 09: Khe Sanh – Hue. (B,L,D): ~ 170 km
In the morning we head south over the Da Krong Bridge (built by the Cubans in 1973) into the infamous A Shau valley, an area of intense wartime activity. Passing Hamburger Hill and mountains still barren due to the extended effects of Agent Orange, we arrive at A Luoi, where there are many Bru Van hill tribe people. Then, cruising through green back country down the steep Me Oi Pass, we continue on to the beautiful city of Hue which lies along the banks of the Perfume River. Overnight in Hue.
Day 10: Hue. (B,L,D)
Hue was known as the political and cultural centre of the Feudal State of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty. Boat ride along the Perfume River from where you can appreciate the exuberance of this ancient imperial city. Along the river, you will visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Minh Mang, Tu Duc Tombs… O./n in Hue.
Day 11: Hue – Hoian. (B,L,D): ~ 130 km
See the Forbidden Citadel in the morning. Join the National Highway 1 and head up the Hai Van Pass (Cloudy Pass) before the World Heritage site of Hoi An, a major trading centre in SE Asia in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Day 12: Hoian - Phuoc Son (B/L/D). ~ 140 km
Ride outside the busier traffic around Hoi An. Ascending on quiet, country road into the mountains of the central highlands, passing through green hills, jungle forest and sparse villages. Challenging climbs until picnic lunch. Roll hills and lush scenery all the way to small, picturesque town of Phuoc Son, in a mountain valley near a cascading river. Overnight at local guesthouse.
Day 13: Phuoc Son - Kon Tum (B/L/D): ~ 190 km
The route covers sections of the famed Ho Chi Trail. Hilltribe villages dot the landscape and we'll stop for lunch in one. After lunch, continued riding until Kontum City, a small highlands town also well known from the war period. Accommodation at mini-hotel.
Day 14: Kontum - Pleiku - Ban Me Thuot (B/L/D): ~ 240 km
In the direction to Pleiku, a large scenic central highlands city. Over Ham Rong Pass from Pleiku passing many nearby former military bases, including Plei Me and the Ia Drang Valley.
Pass through pine forests, tea and coffee plantations, and Montagnard "hilltribe" villages. Late arrival in Ban Me Thuot. Accommodation at hotel.
Day 15: Ban Me Thuot - Dalat (B/L/D): ~ 200 km
Go through pretty valleys, countryside, and grueling passes. After breakfast, shuttle up the road for about an hour and a half to beautiful Lak Lake. Ride to Dalat over several passes, through forests and past hill tribe long houses. Late afternoon, arrive in the jewel of the highlands, Dalat, with railway station, cathedral, and hundreds of dilapidated villas. Return to hotel.
Day 16: Dalat Tour (B/L/D)
A half-day spin to see Dalat's more interesting sites, including monk Vien Thuc’s Pagoda, Bao Dai Palace and the eccentric Valley of Love. Afternoon and evening free to sightsee, rest or partake of the many good restaurants in town: that is the nice time to discover the various local products such as fruits, cakes, jams and Dalat wine.
Day 17: Dalat – Dambri waterfall - Bao Loc (B/L/D): ~ 160 km
Depart from Dalat, down to Bao Loc town following the road 20th. Wonderful and easy karts road crossing coffee and tea fields. At Bao Loc tow, we turn right and ride around 20km more to arrive at the famous waterfall: Dambri. After the visit at Dambri waterfall, we return to Baoloc and overnight at hotel Baoloc.
Day 18: Bao Loc - Saigon (B/L): ~ 190 km
We have quite long day riding around 190 km to Saigon. Quiet roads and fresh air are finished, noisy boulevards and busy life return!!! . Overnight at our hotel in the center of Saigon. End of the motorbiking trip.
Day 19: Saigon – Mekong. (L/D) by bus.
Cruise on our own luxury boat to explore the Mekong Delta by Lecochinchine boat.
8 am: the bus will come and bring you to Cai Be for the cruise on the Mekong River.
11h30 -12h.00 boarding LE COCHINCHINE boat. Enjoy welcome drink.
Transfer to a local boat for an extensive visit of Cai Be: the floating market, the mazes of waterway, local pop-rice and sweets production.
Visit of colonial buildings, old houses, delightful flower gardens and local coconut candy and rice paper manufacturers.
LeCochinchine continues its cruise to Cochien. Lunch served on board.
Embark on a pleasant walk or cycle on the footpaths of the countryside to discover tropical fruit orchards and the local people's activities. Visit a cottage industry , a local farm and sample seasonal fruits.
Leisurely cruise on the Mekong River while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Enjoy an aperitif over the sunset.
Dinner and night on board.
Day 20: Mekong – Saigon (B). By bus
Breakfast on boat in the morning.
Visit the fruit farm and walks amongst the lush vegetation through verdant villages and meet with local people
LeCochinchine continues its cruise toward Caibe.
Transfer to a local boat for an extensive visit of Cai Be: the floating market, local pop-rice and sweets production. Visit of colonial buildings, old houses, delightful flower gardens and local coconut candy and rice paper manufacturers.
Boarding back at noon, with a welcome-back drink.
11 h00 Disembark in Caibe. The cruise concludes then the bus will take you back to Saigon.
Free to visit Saigon + Shopping - transfers to the airport.
