Motorbike Hochiminh trail + Mekong river cruise
This mixt trip between motorbike starting from Hanoi until Hoian and boat trip in Mekong permits you to see the difference faces of the country and its people from North to South. You have a chance to stay overnight with local people in Maichau then luxury hotels in Hue, Danang and Hoi An before having some unforgettable nights on boat in Mekong River!
Round: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Lam Kinh National vestige (Tan ky) - President Hochiminh village (Huong Khe) - Phong Nha cave - Khe Sanh - Hue - Hoian - Danang - Hochiminh
Day 01: Arrival in Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi, transfer to the capital then free to visit the city as your desires. In the late after-noon, check and try the motorbike with our guide. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Hanoi - Mai Chau. 145 km (L,D)
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before reaching at high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.
Day 03: Mai Chau – Lam Kinh National vestige - Tan ky.(B,L,D)
We ride out of Maichau, following the road N15 and Ma River. The landscape is wonderful with rice fields and bamboo forests… We stop at Lam Kinh national vestige in Thanh Hoa province, this monument is unique in the citadel architecture in Vietnam based on the big stones. After lunch, we continue to Tan Ky, a district of Nghe An province where we pass overnight.
Day 04: Tan Ky – President Hochiminh village – Huong Khe. (B,L,D)
Turn left and ride down in the direction to Nam Dan where we visit the homeland of President Hochiminh in Sen village. You discover more about the simple life of Uncle Ho by visiting his house and meeting the local people. We take the ferry to across the Lam River then heading south to Huong Khe. O/n in Huong Khe.
Day 05: Huong Khe - Phong Nha cave . (B,L,D)
Always on the Hochiminh road, we arrive and stop to visit Dong Loc intersection, during the anti-US war, this site was the main junction of the supply lines from the North to Ho Chi Minh Trail. We visit some historical vestiges here then ride down to Phong Nha cave, world heritage site – the most beautiful in the center of Vietnam.
Day 06: Phong Nha - Khe Sanh. (B,L,D)
After visiting Phong Nha caves by boat ( ~ 2 hours) we keep riding along the Laotian border on the western lines of the trail to visit Khe Sanh, the strategic American army location during the Vietnamese war. O/n in Khe Sanh.
Day 07: Khe Sanh – Hue. (B,L,D)
In the morning we head south over the Da Krong Bridge (built by the Cubans in 1973) into the infamous A Shau valley, an area of intense wartime activity. Passing Hamburger Hill and mountains still barren due to the extended effects of Agent Orange, we arrive at A Luoi, where there are many Bru Van hill tribe people. Then, cruising through green back country down the steep Me Oi Pass, we continue on to the beautiful city of Hue which lies along the banks of the Perfume River. Overnight in Hue.
Day 08: Hue. (B,L,D)
Hue was known as the political and cultural centre of the Feudal State of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty. Boat ride along the Perfume River from where you can appreciate the exuberance of this ancient imperial city. Along the river, you will visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Minh Mang, Tu Duc Tombs… O./n in Hue.
Day 09: Hue – Hoian. (B,L,D)
See the Forbidden Citadel in the morning. Join the National Highway 1 and head up the Hai Van Pass (Cloudy Pass) before the World Heritage site of Hoi An, a major trading centre in SE Asia in the 16th and 17th centuries. Overnight in Hoi An.
Day 10: Hoian – Danang – flight to Hochiminh city. (B,L)
Visit Hoian town in the morning including ancient houses, Japanese and Chinese temples before riding to the beach. After-noon, ride to Danang, leave the motorbike at our parking then transfer to the aiport and flight to Hochiminh city. Pick-up and transfer to hotel. O/n in Saigon.
Day 11: CAIBE – MYTHUAN - SADEC(L,D)
The first day for the Mekong river cruise.
Departure from your htel to Cai Be, at 11.00-11h30 boarding LE COCHINCHINE boat. Enjoy welcome drink. LeCochinchine continues sets sails to Caithia while lunch is served on boat. Embark on a lovely cycling excursion on the bank of the peninsula browsing several verdant villages. Visit of the gardens and orchards, local houses and ample opportunity meet with people and get insight into Delta life . Visit Caodai temple on the way to Mythuan.Continue our cruise toward Sadec, a nice and quiet town overlooking Mekong river. Visit the lively Sadec food market and primary school headed by Magueritte Duras. Walks along the village path and get yourself acquaintance with rural activities as farmers farm their fields: rice fields, and vegetable farms, fish farms. Back to our boat for a cruise downstream. Relax on boat while sipping an aperitif. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 12: CAITHIA - VINHLONG - TRAON (B,L,D)
Breakfast on board on the Mekong. Visit Binh Hoa Phuoc island and go for walk walk through the islets, sampling native fruits viewing local handicraft production and meet the local people. Transfer to a local boat for an extensive visit of Cai Be: the floating market, the mazes of waterway , local pop-rice and sweets production. Visit of old houses, delightful flower gardens and local coconut candy and rice paper manufacturers. LeCochinchine continues its cruise to Cochien. Lunch served on board. Embark on a pleasant walk on the footpaths of the countryside to discover tropical fruit orchards and the local people's activities. Visit a cottage industry , a local farm and sample seasonal fruits. Boarding back, complimentary drink as a welcome back on board. Open bar and rest on the deck enjoying the sunset. The crew will serve dinner while the Le Cochinchine is cruising Mang Thit river.
Day 13: TRAON – CANTHO – SAIGON - DEPARTURE (B,L)
Breakfast on board. The morning bobbling commotion of Mekong river life comes to life for another lovely day our boat set sails to Cantho through tributary and canals.Transfer to Cairang: one of the most bustling floating markets in Mekong. We go for a walk along the canals and the palm-shaded creek to see local houses and green orchards, ship building yards, rural and water activities in full swing. Boarding back at noon, with a welcome-back drink. 11 h00 Disembark in Cantho. After lunch, transfer back to Saigon, shopping then departure to the airport. End of the trip.
